Extremism is one of the greatest challenges the country faces and local authorities have a core role to play in building more cohesive communities and tackling the harms extremists cause. The Counter-Extremism Strategy published on 19 October 2015 sets out a clear focus on this and strengthening partnerships to counter extremist ideology and promoting our shared values that unite communities.

The Community Co-ordinator is a new and high profile role, which will work through existing partnerships across the public, voluntary and community sectors to strengthen work in Bradford to build community resilience. You will be expected to build up an extensive understanding of the drivers and prevalence of extremism in Bradford, lead on identifying local mainstream voices, and support those partners countering extremism in all its forms by signposting them to support opportunities which will consolidate and amplify their messages. You will need to have excellent communication and influencing skills and will be expected to represent the council at various internal and external meetings, working closely with the local community, senior council officers and elected councillors, as well as central Government.

 

An enhanced disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service will be undertaken for this post.

 

The successful applicant will be required to undertake SC security clearance. The Home Office will also conduct checks of candidates’ online presence before any offer of employment is made to determine whether their appointment would present an undue reputational risk to the local authority or the department.
