SkillsHouse is Bradford’s partnership gateway for residents to access careers and employment support responsible for triaging enquiries, the provision of high quality and effective careers and guidance support young people and adults, coordinating a coherent local partnership to offer a full range of specialist, training, and employment support to residents to creating new opportunities for gaining sustained work and career progression including supporting those clients with English language needs.
 
SkillsHouse is a creative and constructive partnership of Bradford Council, and the University of Bradford, FE partners, a range of community partners, and the West Yorkshire Combined Authority working together to implement an all-age careers and employment service. 
 
This exciting opportunity will be at the very heart of achieving our ambition of building a more inclusive, sustainable and productive economy in Bradford.
 
You will be working on a fast-paced programme. We are looking for an experienced person who has a good understanding of ESOL provision and barriers faced by residents whose first language is not English. 
 
You will;
  • Carry out and support others to gather assessment data and profiles on ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) learners who need support to find suitable provision. 
  • Maintain the mapping of ESOL provision and increase access to ESOL provision in Bradford District.
  • Refer learners to appropriate provision by working with providers of ESOL. 
  • Link with Employment Advisers to help support clients into employment.
The post-holder will be located in the Adult Services Team within Employment and Skills but will have links with other departments within the council.

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.
