Museum Assistant (Visitor Assistant)

Band 5: £16,491 - £17,772 pa

1 x 37 hours per week

Based at: Cartwright Hall Art Gallery, Lister Park, Bradford.

 

 

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying  for customer  facing  posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The criteria under Special Knowledge and Experience on the Job Profile, which is shown in this advert, outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.

 

The post allows the successful candidate to be part of an established team maintaining the effective operation of Cartwright Hall Art Gallery as a public visitor facility and workplace.

 

The post involves a wide range of duties including, keyholding, ,cleaning, putting up and taking down temporary exhibitions, moving and handling and setting up chairs & tables for lectures & events.

 

Contracted hours are spread over a four week rota between 8.00am and 5:00pm including weekends and Bank Holidays, but must also be available to do extra hours to provide holiday and sickness cover. Occasional evening working also required.  Please see Rota attached.

 

This post supports the operational, curatorial, exhibition and education teams with the delivery of public facing activities which include:

 

  • Interacting with visitors and interpreting the building and collections to ensure a high level of visitor satisfaction.
  • Developing and delivering children’s and family activities
  • Responsibility for the security of the site including galleries, stores, offices, toilets etc and their contents
  • Lifting and manoeuvring items of varying weight and size associated with museum work, individually or part of a team, following approved  lifting and handling procedures
  • Working at heights involving ladders and other equipment
  • Mounting and dismantling of exhibitions, hanging works of art, moving sculptures
  • General maintenance
  • Cash handling and shop sales
  • Telephone reception duties including processing enquiries and bookings
  • Key holder duties including operating the alarm systems unaided and to being part of the call-out team.
  • Supporting safety at site including fire evacuation procedures.
