APPRENTICE - Pensions Officer

Starting from Band 3, Scale Point 8

 

Age 16/17 – Year 1 - £ 8,124 pa - Year 2 - £ 12,728 pa

Age 18 +   - Year 1 - £  11,816 pa -  Year 2 - £ 14,226 pa

2 x 37 hours per week

Bradford City Centre

 

We are looking for 2 motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Pensions Officer to deal with work relating to the administration of the Local Government and other Pension Schemes administered by WYPF.

 

As Apprentice Pension Officer, you will provide general clerical assistance and contribute to the efficient and effective administration of pension work, learning about different aspects of the scheme and the benefits it provides. You must be able to work under pressure and as part of a team.

 

We are looking for an individual who is committed to undertaking an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Business Administration.  To qualify for the apprenticeship you must have Entry Level 3 or above in Maths and English and not already qualified at Level 2 in the subject area.  (An assessment will take place before the interview stage)

 

The apprentice will follow a programme of training relating to the role and achieve the appropriate skills, competencies and qualifications of the role by the end of the training programme. 

Bradford Council will provide you with sufficient time, the working environment and range of job activities within where it is possible for you to complete your full apprenticeship. 

The main responsibilities of the post are to:

  • Establish an understanding of the pension scheme provisions and requirements.
  • Develop customer service skills and an understanding of the requirements of the membership types.
  • Understand the principles and requirements of the Data Protection Act.
  • Deal with requests and queries from members and liaison staff confidently and competently with the minimal of supervision.
  • Deal with a broad aspect of correspondence and telephone queries, .including personal visits from members of the scheme.
  • To manage own workload, prioritising work and working to strict deadlines.
  • To assist in the development and implementation of new working practices and technologies.
  • To establish an understanding of WYPF documentation and procedures.
  • Understand and navigate the computer administration and workflow systems and electronic scanned documents.

 

The successful candidate will have the following competencies: 

  • Follow instructions with a methodical approach
  • Solve problems in a timely response that demonstrates both logical and creative thinking
  • Take part in on going training in order to show continuing skills development
  • Have a responsible approach towards learning new skills
  • Update own technical knowledge to provide the most efficient service delivery
  • Must be accurate, and able to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Able to work productively both within a team and, on occasions, alone
  • Ability to manage time and work schedule within strict deadlines
  • Able to operate a range of office equipment eg telephone, photocopier, fax etc
  • Able to use standard IT packages to undertake word processing activities and produce documents, reports, agendas etc e.g. Microsoft Word

As this is an Intermediate Apprenticeship opportunity successful applicants at the selection stage will be assessed first on numeracy/literacy skills.  Only successful applicants from the assessment centre process will be interviewed.
