Specialist Support Worker (SSW) for Deaf children

Band 5/6: £12,356 - £15,089 per annum (this figure is an actual salary based on pro-rata for part-time, term-time posts with under 5 years continuous service)

32.5 hours per week, term time + one week (39 weeks)

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, dedicated and creative Specialist Support Worker (SSW) to join our team of professionals to work with deaf children across the Sensory Service, in the Additionally Resourced Centres (ARC). This post will initially be based at Girlington Primary school

You will be an experienced Specialist Support Worker with the ability to demonstrate skills in British Sign Language at Level 2 and have a willingness to develop BSL further.  You will work as part of a large, enthusiastic team of professionals who are striving to constantly improve provision for Deaf pupils.  As a Specialist Support Worker within the Sensory Service you will have a commitment and passion to ensure quality access to whole school provision and delivery of good outcomes for deaf pupils.

You will:

  • Facilitate full access to the curriculum and whole school environment for Deaf and Hearing Impaired pupils.

  • To undertake and implement work/care/support programmes with individuals / groups to enable access to learning for pupils and to assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom.  Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.

  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils achievement, progress and problems.
