The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The prime objective of the post is to act as LGV Driver/Pool in Waste Disposal duties. To work where appropriate as a member of a team engaged on the collection and disposal of waste from Household Waste Recycling Centres and transfer stations, including the use of associated plant and machinery at Transfer Stations and/or Household Waste Recycling Centres. To operate and maintain large items of plant i.e. wheel loading shovels, 360 excavator roll pack machines, compaction equipment and undertake front line and shunting duties of Large Goods Vehicles and trailers.
To meet operational targets agreed by Management. Working on various Household Waste Recycling Centres will also be a feature as operational needs dictate.
You will:

Have experience of manual work regarding the handling of weight, lifting and walking long distances and have recent experience of driving and maintaining large items of plant within the waste industry e.g. loading shovels

Some experience of driving and maintaining LGV class 1 vehicles

Possess a current LGV class 1 licence

Have Good literacy and numeracy skills in order to complete work, plant and vehicle record sheets (A written test will be undertaken at the interview)

Must have the ability to pass the required exams to receive the qualification from a recognised registered company for operating 360 excavator, loading shovels, roll pack machines and integral compactors (a practical test will be undertaken to assess the candidates abilities at the interview)
