The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English. The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile shown outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate. Therefore it is essential that you provide examples in your application.

The job

You will be involved in collecting Council Tax, as well as processing benefit claims for citizens of Bradford who find themselves in need, working in small groups but as part of a larger team. Most of the work is done in the office on the computer, but telephone contact with customers also takes place.

The benefits

You may be able to work flexibly between 7am and 7pm to suit your work life balance, as well as the opportunity of home working after being with us for 12 months. We offer an excellent benefits package including pension scheme and enhanced holidays, as well as being based in the city centre directly opposite the new Westfield shopping centre and close to the bus and train stations.

The person

You should have a good attention to detail with a “right first time“ attitude and want to help the citizens of Bradford who may be in need. You must have at least 12 months experience of working in an office environment involving public contact or 5 GCSE’s at grade A-C (including Maths & English) or equivalent.

Please read all the guidance notes and the job profile carefully.  Following this if you require more information contact Denis Ryan on 01274 432335 or email denis.ryan@bradford.gov.uk.

An enhanced disclosure check with Disclosure Scotland will be undertaken for this post.

Please note that any short listed applicants will be invited to attend an initial selection test in the week commencing 9th October 2017.

Closing Date: 2nd October 2017
