Age 18 +   - Year 1 - £  13,193 pa

                  - Year 2 - £  15,942 pa

 

Subject to age/starting qualification and length of apprenticeship.

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

Bradford Council is looking for 3 motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Roadworkers to undertake an Apprenticeship Scheme for 24 months. 

 

Highways Maintenance is responsible for the construction and maintenance of all highways within the City of Bradford MDC together with Winter Maintenance operations.  You will work as part of a team carrying out highways including reconstruction of footways and carriageways, drainage works and winter maintenance operations.

 

Each apprentice will join a team involved on highway construction activities, including kerbing, flagging and laying tarmac.  You will also be trained to operate mechanical plant i.e. Rollers, road saws, compressors, kerb and paving saws.

 

We are looking for individuals who are committed to undertaking an Intermediate Level 2 in General Construction Operations.

 

To qualify for the apprenticeship you must have Entry Level 3 or above in Maths and English and not already qualified at Level 2 in General Construction Operations. (An assessment will take place before the interview stage).

 

The apprentice will follow a programme of training relating to the role and achieve the appropriate skills, competencies and qualifications by the end of the training programme. 

Bradford Council will provide you with sufficient time, the working environment and a range of job activities to enable you to complete your apprenticeship.

The following skills knowledge apply to this post:-

  • Ability to manage time and work schedule within strict deadlines
  • Able to work flexibly to accommodate the needs of the service
  • Must be accurate, and able to demonstrate good numeracy and literacy skills
  • Able to work productively both with a team and, on occasions, alone
  • Able to carry out manual work in an outdoor environment
  • Demonstrate ability to carry out sustained levels of moderate/heavy physical activity over a prolonged period, including regular exposure to inclement weather conditions.
  • Demonstrate understanding of working in a highway environment;

 

An enhanced disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service will be undertaken for this post.

 

 

As this is an Intermediate Apprenticeship opportunity successful applicants at the selection stage will be assessed first on numeracy/literacy skills.  Only successful applicants from the assessment centre process will be invited to interview.
