IT Services Traineeship Opportunity (8 weeks)

Bradford Council IT Services would like to offer two fantastic 8 week traineeships working within a very busy Information Technology department.

Working in the Service Operations team 4 weeks will be spent helping our teams on the Councils network and telephone system supporting customers with faults, new installations and general maintenance of the service.  A further 4 weeks will be spent working with our 2nd line Desktop support team dealing with laptop hardware and software faults.

As a service department any applicant should have excellent communication and customer care skills and be comfortable meeting, talking and supporting different customers each day.  Applicants should be enthusiastic, punctual, organised and willing to learn new skills.  Applicants should have as a minimum already completed a Level 2 IT or Computing apprenticeship.

A provisional start date is February 2017 where travel and lunch expenses will be paid for the duration of the traineeship. 

Following the traineeship there may be an opportunity to apply for a Level 3 Apprenticeship with the IT Service, Service Operations team where a trainee would expand their skills into the following areas;

·         Developing and evidence working knowledge of PC, Laptop, Thin-client and Printer hardware architecture

·         Install, configure and troubleshoot supported hardware

·         Configure, install and troubleshoot I/O devices (printers, scanners, multimedia devices)

·         Install supported operating systems using Windows Deployment Services and manually.

·         Troubleshoot basic Smartphone issues (e.g. password resets)

·         Install, configure and troubleshoot applications

·         Basic knowledge of network devices, e.g.  TCP/IP, switches, routers, cable/ADSL, WiFi

·         Communicate fixes and continue to be current with all knowledgebase updates.

·         Troubleshoot basic VDI – Workspace issues (e.g. locked sessions, frozen sessions, missing software)

·         Knowledge of phone settings including IP phone setup, finding and removing diverts

·         Order new & repair old data points including replacing faulty equipment

·         Voice Mail Set-up

·         Understanding Switchboard Ports / Plids and features including pickup groups

·         Understanding switchboard topology

·         Working knowledge of network utilities e.g. ping/tracert/ipconfig

·         Installation of patch cables and switches

·         Understanding different types of network devices

·         Cable types & connections (CAT5/Fibre, RJ45, ST, LC, ST, MTRJ)
