The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

Bradford Council is looking for 10 motivated and enthusiastic Apprentice Neighbourhood and Customer Service Support Officers to undertake an Apprenticeship Scheme for 18 months.  This apprenticeship covers 3 different roles: Council Wardens, Customer Services Officer and Environmental Enforcement Officer. The post holders will be responsible for liaising with residents and businesses to encourage them to take responsibility for their waste and to play an active role in their neighbourhoods. They will do this in a variety of ways such as patrolling neighbourhoods and talking to residents and businesses about waste, including investigating service requests and offences and enforcing legislation. The post holders will also work in the Contact Centre providing an advice service to customers over the telephone about a range of Council services. Council Wardens are also responsible for issuing Penalty Charge Notices for vehicles in contravention of parking, waiting and loading restrictions.

 

We are looking for individuals who are committed to undertaking an Advanced Level 3 in Public Service Operational Delivery Officer as part of the Apprenticeship.

 

To qualify for the apprenticeship you must have Level 1 or above in Maths and English and not already qualified at Level 3 in Public Service Operational Delivery Officer (An assessment will take place before the interview stage).

 

The apprentice will follow a programme of training relating to the role and achieve the appropriate skills, competencies and qualifications by the end of the training programme. 

Bradford Council will provide you with sufficient time, the working environment and a range of job activities to enable you to complete your apprenticeship.

The following skill competencies apply to this post:-

 

 

  • Have GCSE Maths and English at Grades A-C or be able to demonstrate good literacy and numeracy through assessment before interview

  • Able to use a range of IT packages

  • Ability to adopt a process of continual improvement and suggest ways of

  • Working more efficient and effectively to improve service delivery

  • Know and understand how to use, interpret, handle and communicate information

  • Be able to read, understand and convey relevant information to individuals and groups

  • Be able to keep an accurate record of work undertaken using appropriate forms

  • Use sensitivity and discretion when dealing with issues of a confidential nature

  • Able to diffuse difficult and potentially harmful situations where appropriate

  • Able to develop positive relationships and networks with residents, businesses and other workers

 

 

A Disclosure and Barring Service check will be undertaken for this post.

 

As this is an Advanced Apprenticeship opportunity successful applicants at the selection stage will be assessed first on numeracy/literacy skills.  Only successful applicants from the assessment centre process will be invited to interview.
