Charge hand (Materials Recycling Facility)

Band 7:    £20,138 pa - £22,658 pa  - £10.44 to £11.74 per hour (for 37 hours)

1 x 37 hours plus 8 hours contractual overtime per week at time and half, on a morning and afternoon alternating work pattern

45 hours per week plus casual overtime as required (overtime paid at time ½ and double time Sunday)

     This post is only open to Bradford Council Employees who are on Established or Fixed Term Contract because the
     Council has to consider employment opportunities for its workforce.

 

The prime objective of the post is to act as a charge hand in the materials recycling facility. To work as a member of a team engaged in the processing of co-mingled recycled waste collected from the residents of Bradford, which is brought to the materials recycling facility and be willing to work unsociable hours as and when required.

 

This will include the use and maintenance of associated plant and machinery within the materials recycling facility and Transfer Stations and/or Household Waste Recycling Centres. To operate and maintain large items of plant i.e. wheel loading shovels, 360 excavator roll pack, fork truck, compaction equipment including large balers.

 

Duties will include working alongside the production supervisor to ensure that the co-mingled waste materials are processed through the MRF to the required quality specification. You will have a good understanding in the use of associated plant and machinery within the materials recycling facility and Transfer Stations and/or Household Waste Recycling Centres.

 

To meet operational targets agreed by Management. Working on various Household Waste Recycling Centres or transfer stations may also be a required as operational needs dictate.

 

You will:

 

  • Have experience of manual work regarding the handling of weight, lifting and walking long distances

  • Have some experience of maintaining large items of plant within the waste industry e.g. loading shovels, conveyor belt and heavy duty balers

  • Have at least 2 years’ experience of working in the waste industry

  • Possess a current in date certificate for operating loading shovels, fork trucks and other plant

  • Have Good literacy and numeracy skills in order to complete work, plant, vehicle record sheets, permits to work (A written test will be undertaken at the interview)

  • Have experience of leading other staff members

  • Have the ability to undertake training and exams to achieve the required qualifications WAMITAB COTEC level 4 (6 units minimum), IOSH managing health and safety.
