APPRENTICE Administrator

Temporary 13 Month Contract

£3.40 per hour – Rising to £3.50 April 2017

1 x 37 hours per week

Based in Bradford City Centre

 

To undertake an Apprenticeship Scheme within the Department of Children’s Services for which the main purpose of the role is to assist in the provision of a reception service across several sites dealing with generic and service specific duties across the South Bradford children’s centres cluster. Together with its partners, the children’s centre cluster delivers an extensive programme of services to families and children aged 0-5.

 

To act in accordance with the Data Protection Act and Information security and governance principles and maintain confidentiality at all times.

 

We are looking for an individual who is committed to undertaking an Intermediate Level Apprenticeship in Business Administration.  To qualify for the apprenticeship you must have GCSE Maths and English at Grades A-C or Entry Level 3 or above in Maths and English and not already qualified at Level 2 in the subject area.  (An assessment will take place before the interview stage).  Those with a degree are not eligible to apply.

 

The apprentice will follow a programme of training relating to the role and achieve the appropriate skills, competencies and qualifications of the role by the end of the training programme.  Bradford Council will provide you with sufficient time, the working environment and range of job activities within where it is possible for you to complete your full apprenticeship. 

 

The main responsibilities of the post are to:

 

    To maintain filing systems, information systems and to retrieve and disseminate information as appropriate to the needs of the service.
    General clerical assistance. Reception and telephonist responsibility, taking and distributing messages and answering routine enquiries, logging and scanning of post/documentation. Word processing, and copy typing services, photocopying.
    Responding to routine letters and emails and correspondence.
    Maintenance and updating of distribution lists.
    Arrange team meetings and meetings on behalf of staff, including co-ordination of diaries and arrangements for meeting rooms.
    Prepare information to help place orders for materials, stationery and other items/resources and check delivery notes and invoices, as required.
    Assist in the distribution of information and publications within and outside the Council, including the updating of mailing lists.
    To undertake calculations as appropriate to service need.

 

The successful candidate will have the following competencies:

 

    Able to use a range of IT packages, ie Microsoft Word, Outlook and Excel
    Able to learn data protection and information security protocols
    Has successfully passed on information accurately both face to face and by telephone
    Has an awareness of the diverse needs of our communities
    Has respected confidential information and not disclosed it inappropriately to others
    Has previously followed instructions in a careful and structured way to carry out a task


The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer  facing  posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.
