PO3 - PO6: £33,106 - £43,387 pa (Career Graded Post) (pro-rata for part time)

(starting salary dependant on experience)

2 x 30 or 37 hours per week

6 Month Fixed Term Contract

You will be based  in the Bradford City Centre in the Grade One Listed City Hall and have all the benefits of the cultural, retail and leisure facilities that Bradford has to offer as the 4th largest Metropolitan District.

 

The Councils general conditions of employment apply including – 8 statutory holidays, 27 days annual leave and flexible working.

 

You will assist the Team Leader (TL) and Deputy Team Leader (DTL)  in providing a high quality legal service ( primarily working in the area of commercial procurement and contract law issues ) in a wide range of matters; receiving guidance and supervision from the  TL and DTL and support from colleague lawyers where appropriate.

The post holder will be required to exercise professional judgment and make all day-to-day operational decisions on allocated matters and cases in the context of legal advice and assistance given to Council Officers and Members.

The post holder is expected to influence and negotiate with contacts both internal and external to the Council. Contacts will include officers at Chief Executive Level and below, elected members, regulatory bodies, other Council staff, private practice solicitors and barristers and other professionals involved primarily in the area of work of commercial law issues and to give appropriate advice and assistance to officers and members in the matters allocated to the post holder.

To provide professional legal services to the Council and its officers and members across all departments of the Council and portfolio holders as may be required from time to time.

At least 5 years experience of commercial law issues gained while practising as a solicitor, barrister or Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.

The post holder will be a solicitor entitled to practice in England and holding a current practising certificate, a barrister entitled to practice in England and holding a current practising certificate or a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.

 

NB: Post A fixed term contract will come to an end on the return of the current post holders to work. The fixed term contract for Post B will be brought to end on the 31st March 2017 due to budget reductions.
