Deputy Team Leader (Property Commercial & Development)

Special A:  £42,470 - £45,897 pa (pro-rata for part time posts)

(The starting salary is dependant on experience)

1 x  30 or 37 hours per week

Six Months Fixed term contract

You will be based  in the Bradford City Centre in the Grade One Listed City Hall and have all the benefits of the cultural, retail and leisure facilities that Bradford has to offer as the 4^th largest Metropolitan District.

You will assist the Team Leader (TL) in some management projects. The ideal candidate will have a thorough understanding of planning, highways and local government regulatory and licensing issues across a wide range of complex matters; receiving guidance and supervision from the TL and support from colleague lawyers where appropriate.

The post holder will be required to exercise professional judgment and make all day-to-day operational decisions on complex allocated matters in the above areas of local government law in the context of legal advice and assistance given to Council officers and members and attend committee.

The post holder is also expected to influence and negotiate with contacts both internal and external to the Council. Contacts will include officers at Chief Executive level and below, elected members, courts, tribunals and regulatory bodies’ staff, private practice solicitors and barristers and other professionals involved primarily in the area of work of planning. Highways and local government regulatory law issues and to give appropriate advice and assistance to officers and members in the matters allocated to the post holder.

To provide professional legal services to the Council and its officers and members particularly to officers of the Department of Regeneration as may be required from time to time especially in the area of the major ongoing planning developments across the district and the five high profile highways and transportation improvement schemes been undertaken by the Council along side the West Yorkshire Combined Authority.

At least 5 years experience of planning highways, regulatory and licensing law issues gained while practising as a solicitor, barrister.

The post holder will be a solicitor entitled to practice in England and holding a current practising certificate, a barrister entitled to practice in England and holding a current practising certificate

Please note this post has arisen due to absence from work of the current Team Leader.  Were the team leader to return to work prior to the 31^st March 2017 then the fixed term contract will terminate on that return to work.
