Legal Officer (Property)

Band 7 - SO2: £19,939- £29,854 pa (the starting salary is dependant on experience)

1 x 37 hours per week

Temporary fixed term contract for six months

You will be based  in the Bradford City Centre in the Grade One Listed City Hall and have all the benefits of the cultural, retail and leisure facilities that Bradford has to offer as the 4th largest Metropolitan District in England and Wales.

 

This post has arisen due to the post holder being seconded to a more senior role within the team.

 

The post holder will assist the Team Leader, Deputy Team Leader, Senior Lawyers and Lawyers in the provision of high quality professional legal services in the areas of Commercial, Property and Development Law for the Council. 

 

The main areas of law covered by the team are commercial, contracts, property, development, licensing pensions and investment law.  The focus of the post will be on Property Law matters. The post holder has authority to make day-to-day operational decisions, with considerable delegated powers only referring or bringing to the attention of the Team Leader or Deputy or Senior Lawyers and Lawyers complex and/or sensitive issues and matters. The post holder will contribute to and assist in the implementation of new policies and procedures in the office but is not expected to make strategic decisions.

The exercise of judgement in managing a caseload of routine property cases, under the overall guidance of the Team Leader is required. Depending on experience the post holder is expected to work with minimum supervision only, seeking guidance on particularly complex or sensitive issues in undertaking all professional responsibilities and liaising with Senior Lawyers and Lawyers where appropriate.

The post holder will have contact with officers within the client departments, private practice solicitors and barristers, staff and managers of other agencies such as the Land Registry, Court Service, Planning Inspectorate, Police, In communities, NHS Trusts, members of the public and expert witnesses.

NB Please note that the fixed term contract will come to an end either on the return to the post of the post holder who is currently on secondment or by the 31st March 2017 (whichever is the sooner) due to the implementation of  budget reductions from the 1st April 2017.
