This post is only open to Bradford Council Employees who are on Established or Fixed Term Contracts because the Council has to consider employment opportunities for its workforce.
The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English. The Bradford District enjoys 37 public parks, 118 recreation grounds, 170 playing pitches, 55 bowling greens and over 300 outdoor play/fitness facilities, the vast majority managed and maintained by the Council's Park & Green Spaces Service. The Service has ambitious plans for investment in both its playing pitches and outdoor play facilities to improve the quality of provision whilst reducing annual maintenance and repair costs.
An opportunity has arisen within the Parks & Greenspaces Technical Design Unit for a Technical Officer (Design). You will be part of the Technical Design team who plan, design and manage recreation and amenity projects from conception to completion. You will also be required to give technical support and advice on a wide range of schemes and developments across the Sport and Culture service.
The successful candidate must have good design, graphic and analytical abilities and report writing skills together with the ability to communicate to a wide range of audiences and experience of community and stakeholder consultation and partnership working.
A full driving licence will be required.
The role includes but isn’t limited to the following tasks:
· The provision of professional technical and design support on horticultural grounds maintenance, environmental design and other initiatives relevant to the work area.
- The successful project management of a wide range of projects within budget and time constraints.
- Working closely with Officers/Management Plan, design and manage projects ensuring they are delivered on time and within budgets to the highest possible standard to the Council’s estate of Parks, Recreation Grounds, public open space and amenity areas.
- To obtain tenders and quotations in accordance with Council Policies and Standing Orders.
- To make recommendations to the Senior Technical Officer and Technical Manager in connection with the financial allocation and strategies regarding project design matters.
- To liaise with Parks District Managers and assist them in the preparation of plans, designs and budgets, including Green Flag Management plans.
- To actively seek funding for schemes where there is an identified requirement but no available funding.
