Civil Engineering Apprentice

BandAge 18 +  -   Year 1 - £13,913pa - Year 2 - £15,029pa – Year 3 - £17,073pa

2  x  37 hours per week

Temporary for 36 months

Based at Britannia House, Broadway, Bradford  (may be required to work on site with installation operatives across the District)

 

 

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The Department of Place would like to recruit an Apprentice who is enthusiastic, competent and flexible to assist in the maintenance, design of structural and civil engineering projects   and the assessment of Development Control submission for approval across Bradford District.

 

To undertake an Apprenticeship Scheme within the Department of Place for which the main purpose of the role is to:-

 

  • Provide assistance with the design of Civil Engineering works including the preparation of designs, calculations, drawings, estimates, contracts and other documentation in the Structures section.
  • Provide assistance with contract administration, site supervision, record keeping, measurement of works, specification compliance, checking of accounts of payment in accordance with the Council’s Standing Orders and Financial Regulations.
  • Carry out surveys, feasibility studies and collection of data and assist with the preparation of reports, project development and consultation.

 

The apprentice will follow a programme of training relating to the role and achieve the appropriate skills, competencies and qualifications of the role by the end of the training programme.

 

We are looking for individuals who are committed to undertaking an Advanced Level (3) Apprenticeship in Civil Engineering. 

 

To qualify for the apprenticeship you must have GCSE Maths and English at Grades A-C and being able to demonstrate Level 1 in Maths and English (An assessment will take place before the interview stage).

Bradford Council will provide you with sufficient time, the working environment, training and the range of job activities within where it is possible for you to complete your full apprenticeship. 

The following special knowledge apply to this post:- 

 

  • Able to learn and then use knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and regulations including risk assessments in own area of work
  • Experience of Microsoft Software packages and working knowledge drawing and design techniques and software. 
  • Demonstrable knowledge of how to use, interpret, handle and communicate, often complex and detailed information, and relay it to service users in writing and/or over the telephone / face to face.
  • Ability to manage and prioritise workload in accordance with demands on the service
  • Ability to adopt a process of continual improvement and suggest ways of working more efficiently and effectively to improve service delivery.
  • Is able to work productively as part of a team, under guidance and on own initiative and takes responsibility.
  • Has respected confidential information and not disclosed it inappropriately to others. Awareness of General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Freedom of Information Act.
  • Ability to work in a flexible and productive manner and to present a positive image to public and private sector clients
