SP 1-4 £26,402-£30,571 per annum

West Yorkshire Combined Authority is looking to recruit an experienced Scrutiny Officer to work in a busy Legal & Governance Services department providing a comprehensive, specialist scrutiny support and advice service.
You will be working as part of a team and will primarily provide support and advice to the Overview & Scrutiny Committee to ensure the effect discharge of our scrutiny functions. This will include managing the formal procedures in place for scrutinising decisions of the Combined Authority, carrying out research, writing reports and briefing notes, co-ordinating reports, preparing complex agendas, attending meetings, publishing reports and minutes and undertaking follow-up actions. You will also provide support to our formal committees, advisory panels and the LEP Board.
The role will require you to provide verbal and written advice and guidance to officers and elected members relating to conduct of committee meetings, procedural rules, corporate governance arrangements and safe decision making.
The successful candidate should understand the role of scrutiny, have experience of working in a political environment and a broad knowledge of local government practices and procedures and decision making.
You must be self-motivated, able to organise and prioritise your own workload, work accurately with attention to detail and be able to work under pressure. You should have good IT skills and be able to communicate confidently and effectively at all levels and preferably have experience of using Modern.gov for producing agenda papers and minutes.
