VI SPECIALIST SUPPORT ASSISTANT
Band 5-6:  £17,391 - £20,541 pa  (Pro rata for Part Time Posts)

One post: 32.5 hours per week, term time only +1 (39 weeks)

Based at Grove House Primary ARC

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, dedicated and creative Specialist Support Assistant (SSA) to join our team of professionals to work with children with vision impairment at Grove House Primary school, in the Additionally Resourced Centre (ARC). The ARC supports up to 12 children with severe vision impairment, many of whom use braille and tactile methods for their learning, and a wide range of specialist ICT.

 

The post will be to work across the age range, all our staff are flexible and can be required to move classes as required.

 

The Service supports children with vision impairment from 0 to 19 years old, across the Bradford District in homes, early years’ settings and schools, and also in our Primary and Secondary ARCs.  Grove House ARC has been judged to be outstanding by OfSted and by LA consultants, and was rated highly in the recent award of the VI Quality Mark to the VI Service.

 

You will:

 

  • Undertake and implement work/care/support programmes with individuals/groups to enable access to learning for pupils and assist the teacher in the management of pupils and the classroom. This will be under the direction of the ARC QTVIs and Habilitation Officer, and may include intervention programmes from OT/Physio/SALT. 

 

  • Facilitate access to the curriculum and whole school environment for children with vision impairment

 

  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils’ achievement, progress and problems

 

The successful candidate will also be required to learn braille and undertake additional training, and will be supported to do so.
