The organisation

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an exceptional person who wants to play a leading role in reshaping our local economy and forging better futures for our communities.

 

The Combined Authority brings together five districts plus York, the business community via Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership and also takes in the former Passenger Transport Executive (branded Metro). Overall, the Combined Authority covers a population of around 2.5 million people and represents the largest economy outside London.

 

The role

 

We are looking to appoint an Urban Design practitioner with extensive experience of place making and shaping. As a lead officer you will be working collaboratively with partners across the Leeds City Region to bring forward development opportunities in priority areas. You will be part of the Policy and Strategy Team working with colleagues across a range of specialisms.

 

You will be the main point of contact for partner councils to provide support in developing delivery plans adjacent to transport hubs in historic city and town centres and bringing forward master plans for key strategic sites. You will also be involved with partners developing guidelines and standards for ensuring quality through good design, coordinating training opportunities and supporting policy development in accordance with relevant corporate and service plans.

 

The role is a new post made available through Planning Delivery Fund (Design Quality) offered as a two year fixed term contract to support delivery of a pipeline of key strategic sites where an excellent approach to urban design promotes the Leeds City Region as a good place to live.

 

 

The person

You will be educated to degree or diploma level preferably in a built environment design discipline (preferably civic design, planning, architecture, landscape, or closely related design discipline); have extensive experience of leading urban design projects with both public and private sector partners; competencies in key IT design software & design ability; knowledge of current built environment issues which contribute to creating an ambitious well connected city region.

Please note:  Whilst it is our policy to recruit at SP1 for all appointments, each role has career salary progression, with incremental increases applicable in most cases on an annual basis.
