The SEND Short Breaks Assessment and Specialist Inclusion Team is a developing provision in Bradford’s Children Services, Education and Learning Department.

SEND Short Breaks are a vital service provision for children, young people and their families that offers commissioned or bespoke social inclusion activities.  Education and Learning are focused on supporting children/young people and their families in the Bradford, Keighley and Shipley districts; to ensure that every child has the opportunity to learn and develop skills through play and inclusion, and to offer their parents time out from their caring role.

As a Short Breaks Assessor your role would be undertaking Short Break Assessments to identify if a child or young person with special educational needs or disabilities requires access to short breaks.  You will deliver assessments consistently using the approved framework for Short Breaks in Bradford.  Once the short breaks are in place you would then monitor and complete timely reviews of the provision in place to ensure that it is meeting the needs of the children/young people and their families.

The SEND Short Breaks team works in partnership with other professionals involved with the children/young people and their families to deliver tailored support plans.

Required:

•          Can express themselves fluently and spontaneously, almost effortlessly (Governments Fluency in English)

•          Degree or equivalent qualification or the ability to work at that level.

•          3 years’ experience of working with children and young people with SEND

•          Have worked in a multi-agency setting or across teams

•          Knowledge of social care functions relating to Children’s Social Care

•          Experience of undertaking assessment of needs and completing support plans

•          ICT systems experience (preferably in the field of special educational needs or disabilities)

•          Use a wider range of basic computer applications; word-processing; spreadsheets

•          Able to manage own workload to meet statutory deadlines

•          Excellent analytical skills – interpret, summarise and present complex information

•          Proactive approach to problem solving

•          Have working knowledge of relevant sections of the Children and Families Act 2014, Children Act 1989,

Chronically Sick and Disabled person Act 1970 and Working Together to Safeguard Children

The post requires travel throughout Bradford and districts therefore you must have a full and valid driving licence and a car available to use in the course of your duties.  A casual allowance is payable for mileage.

An enhanced disclosure check with the Disclosure and Barring Service will be undertaken for this post.

If this role is something you feel you can ‘put your all’ into, and you welcome the challenge of being part of a new, up and coming, service provision based in Bradford, then please contact the Short Breaks Manager (details below).
