Deaf Instructor

Band 7 SCP 21-25 : £20,541 - £23,111 per annum (pro-rata for part-time and term-time posts)

32 hours per week, term time + one week (39 weeks)
Established Post based at Hanson HI ARC

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.

We are seeking to recruit a dedicated and creative Deaf Instructor (DI) to join our team of professionals working with deaf children across the Sensory Service, in the Additionally Resourced Centres (ARC). This post will initially be based at Hanson Academy.

You will be an experienced Deaf Instructor with the ability to demonstrate skills in teaching British Sign Language to Level 2 and skills in supporting deaf students learning in the classroom. 

You will work as part of a large, enthusiastic team of professionals who are striving to constantly improve provision for Deaf pupils.  As a Deaf Instructor within the Sensory Service you will have a commitment and passion to ensure quality access to whole school provision and delivery of good outcomes for deaf pupils.

You will:

• Implement agreed work programmes with individuals and groups, in or out of the classroom.
• Provide learning support in classrooms and assist the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management and preparation of resources. 
• Take delegated responsibility for the development of BSL (British Sign Language) within the school and associated settings, including teaching BSL up to level 2.
