Asylum Support Liaison Officer

Band 8: £23,111 - £25,463 pa

37 hours per week

Temporary for two years

Based within Britannia House, Hall Ings Bradford BD1

 

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

 

The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.


We are looking to recruit two people to be part of the Local Authority Asylum Seekers Liaison Project, which aims to reduce destitution, homelessness, rough sleeping, poor health, economic hardship and social isolation among successful asylum seekers, and support  the successful integration into the community of individuals and families granted asylum

 

The postholders will work with asylum seekers who receive positive decisions and are leaving COMPASS accommodation, helping them access service such as housing, benefits, employment and health support, Duties will include co-ordinating a multi-agency approach around the individual to improve proficiency in English language where required, build capacity and support them to develop the life skills needed in their new community.

 

Applicants for the post must have:

 

  • understanding of community integration and practical knowledge of supporting vulnerable people to integrate into the wider community
  • understanding of the asylum process and the issues affecting asylum seekers particularly after they have received a positive decision
  • understanding of accessing benefits, housing and employability support.
  • the ability to work effectively with partner organisations working with asylum seekers in a multi-agency approach to supporting vulnerable individuals and those with barriers to engaging with services.
