The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

With responsibility for the Council’s structures assets the post holder will be lead a team of professional engineers looking after 623 bridges, subways and culverts across the Bradford District in addition to 40 sign gantries/signal mast arms and over 1,600 recorded retaining walls totalling over 120km in length. In addition to maintaining and improving the structures asset the team also provide a structural engineering certification service for the Council’s Building Control section and therefore an understanding of the requirements of the Building Regulations will be a desirable attribute of the successful candidate.

 

Reporting to the Principal Engineer the successful candidate will be responsible for providing advice and guidance on the development of the structures function and the continued development of the structures asset management policy in line with the revised national Code of Practice for Well Managed Highways Infrastructure.

 

For this role the successful candidate will have a minimum of 5 years’ experience in building, highway structures, production of specifications and contract documents and managing workloads, programmes and project budgets together with experience of highway structures asset management.

 

The post holder will also be contractually required to participate in the emergency out of hours standby arrangements both as part of the standby rota but also in ensuring that appropriate cover is provided 365 days per year.

 

A good standard of IT literacy of Microsoft Office programs is required including the ability to produce spread sheets and written reports.
