Specialist Support Worker (Communication Support Worker) for Deaf Children

Band 7 SCP 21-25 : £20,541 - 23,111 per annum (pro-rata for part-time & term time posts)

32 hours per week, term time + one week (39 weeks)
Established post based at Hanson HI ARC

 

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

 

The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.

 

We are seeking to recruit an experienced, dedicated and creative Specialist Support Worker (SSW) to join our team of professionals to work with deaf children across the Sensory Service, in the Additionally Resourced Centres (ARC). These posts will initially be based at Hanson Academy.

You will be an experienced Specialist Support Worker with the ability to demonstrate skills in British Sign Language at a minimum of Level 2, preferably Level 3, and have a willingness to develop BSL further. 


You will work as part of a large, enthusiastic team of professionals who are striving to constantly improve provision for Deaf pupils. 


As a Specialist Support Worker within the Sensory Service you will have a commitment and passion to ensure quality access to whole school provision and delivery of good outcomes for deaf pupils.

You will:

 
  • Facilitate full access to the curriculum and whole school environment for Deaf and Hearing Impaired pupils
  • Implement agreed work programmes with individuals/groups, in or out of the classroom. This could include those requiring detailed and specialist knowledge in particular areas and will involve assisting the teacher in the whole planning cycle and the management/preparation of resources.
  • Provide detailed and regular feedback to teachers on pupils achievement, progress and problems
