Senior Public Health Specialist (Healthy Communities - Health promotion team)

Special A: £50,467 - £54,378 pa (pro-rata for part-time posts)

3 x 37 hours per week

Bradford Council Public Health team are seeking to recruit skilled and ambitious Public Health Specialists into senior leadership positions in our team. As a Senior Public Health Specialist you will need to have demonstrable experiences in the application of public health skills, and strategic thinking. Successful applicants will also be adept at transforming vision and strategy into practical outputs. An ability to work flexibly on a dynamic and emergent programmes of work is key as well as demonstrable experience of building strong relationships with a diverse range partners from across the system.

Public Health is part of a Health and Wellbeing Department that includes Adult Social Care and Environmental Health.  Bradford Council is large unitary authority with an excellent reputation. The district provides an interesting and challenging environment for Public Health work, having a wide inequality in life expectancy and a legacy of strong partnership working across health, social care and VCS partners. These are permanent positions; the health promotion and smokefree roles are funded by the DHSC Smoking Cessation Grant and will be responsible for delivering key elements of this work programme. All senior roles in the team are expected to be able to be able operate across the breadth of public health areas as well as within their allocated remit.

Senior Public Health Specialist - Health Promotion:

This senior role will provide the leadership, co-ordination and development of the health promotion work across the public health team and wider partners to shape the health behaviours of our population. Capable of operating across the breadth of health promotion subject matters, the post holder will be responsible for the production, development, and implementation of engaging, evidence based large-scale health promotion campaigns. This role will also lead on delivering the health promotion workstream within the smoking cessation grant programme and designing and managing campaigns and communications to increase people’s awareness of the services that will meet their health needs whilst overseeing insights exploring new ways to deliver accessible health information to residents across the district, especially within our most underserved and digitally excluded communities.

Senior Public Health Specialist - Smokefree:

This senior role will be responsible for the oversight and coordination of the smoking cessation grant and leading the development and mobilisation of the programme plan and ensuring timely reporting on the grant to DHSC including the grant finances. The role will also lead on implementation of the tobacco control strategy and swap to stop initiative and be responsible for coordinating a number of partnerships including the Tobacco Control Alliance to mobilise efforts across the district. In addition to the essential skills outlined in the job description, applicants interested in this role will be expected to demonstrate their passion and experience for delivering on tobacco control and/smoking cessation activity.

Senior Public Health Specialist - Vulnerable Groups: 

This role will lead on developing, implementing, and monitoring public health programmes aimed at preventing and reducing domestic abuse and its impact on health outcomes.  In addition, you will lead the strategic development of welfare advice provision, ensuring alignment with public health goals and local community needs. As part of the Public Health Vulnerable Groups team, you will have a lead position in ensuring that alcohol and drug treatment and recovery services are meeting the needs of service users and you will provide support to public health staff in design and delivery of services and strategies. This role requires significant partnership work and excellent relationship management and communication skills. The voices of those with lived experience is crucial to shaping public health interventions and this will flow throughout your work as we move to reduce health challenges, poverty and exclusion.
