Established Post

Based at Britannia House, Bradford City Centre

We are looking for an enthusiastic and highly driven team member who can help with the Council’s aims to maintain and deliver a first class major planning application service in the Bradford District.

Bradford is an extraordinary, energetic and enterprising place. It is the UK’s youngest city, almost a quarter of the district’s 528,000 population is under 16 and this is one of the many reasons why Bradford has been acknowledged as a key growth location within the Leeds City Region.

We have ambitious plans to promote the building of over 42,000 new homes over the next 15 years and Bradford  is currently seeing significant growth with continued business investment and developer interest in all key sectors. Bradford City Centre is the focus of further planned transformation following the successful delivery of the £260m Broadway Shopping Centre development. Key schemes on the horizon include the rebuilding of the two main railway stations and a number of premium sites for new large scale office developments in the City Centre.

The varied workload for this post involves urban regeneration schemes, major retail, housing and employment proposals and other commercial development evolving from numerous local investment initiatives and government funding projects. We have a number of housing schemes comprising 500 or more units already in the pipeline, many linked to innovative funding packages to help secure delivery.

You will be a Chartered Town Planner and will hold a degree or diploma in Town Planning. Candidates should have a minimum of 5 years development management experience, including experience of dealing with all types of complex major planning applications and appeals. You will be an excellent negotiator and someone who finds solution finding second nature.

You will be the project leader facilitating a “Development Team” approach ensuring maximum contribution to the regeneration of Bradford and the achievement of a sustainable and prosperous District.

Benefits include:

  • a varied workload dealing with large scale planning applications many of which will be major projects in the Leeds City Region
  • continual professional development training and the opportunity for further training to secure appropriate qualifications, including management training
  • flexi-time working
  • car user allowance and car loan facilities
  • relocation allowance, where appropriate
