The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.
The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert, outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate. Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.
We are looking for a Lawyer/Senior Lawyer with experience in public law children work, primarily to assist the council in achieving the discharge of care orders and permanency for looked after children in appropriate cases. The role will also involve advising and advocacy in relation to care proceedings and other public law children matters.
You will need to have relevant legal knowledge and the ability to manage a full caseload. The work is sensitive, confidential and often complex and emotionally demanding in nature.
You should be able to act under pressure in the face of competing demands arising from urgent situations and be able to interpret and communicate information effectively, use a range of complex IT packages and work to tight deadlines. The role also involves providing supervision and support to more junior staff.
Please note this is a temporary position for 18 months.
You will be a Solicitor entitled to practice in England and holding a current practising certificate, a barrister entitled to practice in England and holding a current practising certificate or a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Legal Executives.
