Head of Economic Policy

Grade O SP1-4 ££58,815 - £68,101 per annum

 

Based in Leeds City Centre, but working across the city region.

 

 

The Role

 

The West Yorkshire Combined Authority is seeking an innovative and inspiring person to lead the development of economic and public policy across the city region.

 

You will work with and develop a talented team delivering creative and evidence-based policies to help fulfil our ambition to be recognised globally as a strong, successful economy where everyone can build great businesses, careers, and lives at the heart of the Northern Powerhouse.

We are looking for someone to work with both the LEP Board and the Combined Authority to tackle challenging problems – how can we improve the region’s productivity; how can we improve living standards and how can we ensure everyone benefits from economic growth.

 

You will have a passion for what we do and an enthusiasm to shape our thinking including on productivity, inclusive growth, skills, digitalisation, sustainability and housing to ensure the success of the Leeds City Region for our residents and communities. You will also work seamlessly with the Head of Transport Policy to lead a ‘one team’ culture and make the most of having a single economic and transport policy team.

 

We are looking for someone who can lead thinking and develop innovative solutions through strong partnerships with other organisations. You will work effectively to influence national and regional agendas and secure external funding for the organisation to deliver on our strategic objectives  for the region – including through devolution.  

 

The organisation

 

West Yorkshire Combined Authority and the Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership develop and deliver economic and transport policy across the city region.

 

The Combined Authority brings together five districts plus York, the business community via Leeds City Region Enterprise Partnership and also takes in the former Passenger Transport Executive (branded Metro). Overall, the Combined Authority covers a population of around 2.5 million people, 1.5m jobs, over 120,000 businesses and represents the largest, and perhaps the most diverse, economy outside London.

 

 

 

The person

 

A track record of success in working across policy areas, developing policy and strategy, bidding for and developing business cases and securing funding.

 

A demonstrable track record of practical and successful experience of engagement with a wide range of external bodies and influencing strategic decision makers.

 

Experience of leading, managing and developing a high performing team
