Apprentice Rehabilitation Officer Visual Impairment  

TEMPORARY – 24 Months

Band 5:

 

Age 16/17 -  Year 1 - £   9,565           pa - Year 2 - £ 15,029    pa (pro rata)

Age 18 +  -   Year 1 - £ 13,913           pa - Year 2 - £ 16,797    pa (pro rata)

 

1 x 37 hours per week

Based at Sensory Needs Service Morley Street Resource Centre, 124 Morley Street Bradford BD7 1BB

 

The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016, requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

 

The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert, outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate.  Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.

 

 

The Department of Health and Wellbeing would like to recruit an Apprentice who is enthusiastic, competent and flexible.

 

The main purpose of the role:-  To contribute to the success of the organisation by: Providing services as a member of a multi disciplinary Sensory Needs Care Management Team to sight impaired, severely sight impaired and Deafblind adults and children.

 

This will mainly be in the community, however there maybe some work with children/young people in educational settings.

 

The apprentice will follow a programme of training relating to the role and achieve the appropriate skills, competencies and qualifications of the role by the end of the training programme.

 

We are looking for individuals who are committed to undertaking a Higher Level (5) Apprenticeship in Rehabilitation Visual Impairment.  The individual must be prepared to undertake advanced study at Diploma Level, which will require some travel to and from Birmingham, City University over the period of the apprenticeship.

 

To qualify for the apprenticeship you must have GCSE Maths and English at Grades A-C or a minimum of Level 1 or above in Maths and English.  (An assessment will take place before the interview stage)

Bradford Council will provide you with sufficient time, the working environment, training and the range of job activities where it is possible for you to complete your full apprenticeship. 

The following special knowledge apply to this post:- 

 

  • Able to demonstrate a high level of numeracy, literacy and accuracy across a range of activities
  • Able to learn and demonstrate Grade 1 Braille reading and writing
  • Able to learn about  and use knowledge of a broad range of eye conditions
  • Able to learn and understand the Certification and Registration process of Visual Impairment
  • Able to learn and put into practice the underlying Legislation relevant to practice
  • Able to learn and use knowledge of Health, Safety and Environmental policies, procedures and regulations including risks in own area of work
  • Has completed clerical and administrative work with accuracy and attention to detail
  • Able to operate a range of office equipment eg telephone, photocopier, fax etc
  • Has effectively used key IT packages including Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook
  • Able to use, interpret, handle and communicate large volumes of often complex and detailed information, and relay it to customers in writing and /or over the telephone / face to face.

 

As this is a Higher Level Apprenticeship opportunity successful applicants at the selection stage will be assessed first on numeracy/literacy skills.  Only successful applicants from the assessment centre process will be interviewed.
